4 Weeks Old Today!

FOUR WEEKS?!? We had our 4 week check up at the doctor on Friday. Mckenna is now 7lbs 15oz and 20 1/4 inches long! She had her second Hepititus B shot on Friday and boy did that take its toll on her. The picture above is of Mckenna sporting her pink bandaid from the shot! She didn't have such a good day. She was fussy and wanted to be held all day long. Needless to say I was tired by the time Matt came home! To make Friday an even longer day, Matt had to go into work at 4:45 a.m. to make up time from Thursday, when he was sent home due to a water main break. Mckenna didn't go to bed Friday night, or shall I say Saturday morning, until 1:00 a.m.

Mommy and Daddy were very tired and stressed Saturday so Grandma Lucas came over to spend time with Mckenna. We went grocery shopping and to Buffalo Wild Wings and stayed away a whole 2 1/2 hours before we decided we were gone long enough! :)

Mckenna is starting to smile at us when we talk to her. It is quite exciting! Matt thinks that Mckenna just thinks he is crazy, she tends to look at him with her big blue eyes and a puzzled look on her face! I will close this post with a picture of Rylie watching over Mckenna in her swing.

We look forward to our visit to Iowa next week! Love to you all!

What a beautiful day!!!

Today is a day that I have been waiting for since the day we brought Mckenna home! I thought being home at this time of year would be great because the weather would be perfect and Mckenna and I could get out and WALK! Much to my dismay this has been the third coldest October in history! Matt would say... "it's the Lucas luck..."! Today it is about 68 degrees outside and Mckenna and I went for that long awaited walk! It was delightful, I used my Iphone to play some music for us and we walked for a good 45 minutes! As you can see Mckenna enjoyed it so much she fell asleep!

This was the first weekend we didn't have visitors. We miss all of our visitors but it was nice to be the three of us! Saturday night I was reading to Mckenna out of the Precious Moments Bible and tears came to my eyes because I can remember reading this book with my mom! It is so neat to share these moments with MY little girl! Mckenna fell asleep as we were reading about what God created on the 4th day but I kept on reading! This will be a book we read countless times!

Matt's favorite "thing" to do with Mckenna is SING! I know this doesn't surprise many of you who know Matt well! I came home last night from getting some ice cream and as I approached the door I could hear Matt singing to her. I opened the door and there he was standing in the middle of the living room swaying back and forth singing to her! What a precious site! I am so proud to be the mother of his child, he is such a great dad! The picture is of Matt and Mckenna doing the "mini-me" pose, as Matt calls it, it is one of Mckenna's favorite ways to be held by him.

On to less sappy things... this week we realized that Mckenna doesn't like the bouncy seat but likes the swing. We bought one of those traveling swings and she seems to like it. I snapped a couple of pictures of her sleeping in it yesterday. We can tell that Mckenna is getting older... 3 weeks old to be exact... because her sleep/wake patterns are changing and she spends less time sleeping during the day.

Well, here's to week 4 with Mckenna home! Hopefully this nice weather will hang around so we can get out and walk some more!

Getting settled in!

Matt returned to work on Tuesday and Mom went home Sunday so that left me home with Mckenna and the dogs the rest of the week. We thought Mckenna was on a "schedule" until Friday... She was up most the day... and woke up every two hours that night. However, knock on wood, she seems to have gone back to the old "schedule" and slept really well on Saturday and Sunday night. Her favorite hours to be awake are from 9pm to 11pm. It really kinda stinks! But... this too we will live through.

Friday night Grandma and Grandpa Lucas came over to spend some time with Mckenna while Matt and I went out on a "date". We were gone about 2 hours and it was nice to be out of the house. On Saturday Mom and Dad brought Grandma VonBon to St. Louis to meet Mckenna. It was so nice to have them here again. We had some unruly trees that needed to be trimmed and Matt and Dad worked on that Saturday afternoon. Sunday we had a great home cooked meal by mom for lunch before they hit the road. We just love having them here!

This week Mckenna enjoyed the discover mat that Aunt Marge and Uncle Jim brought her last weekend and she seemed to love getting read to. Matt fed her a bottle for the first time last night and it was a success! It was nice to share this bonding experience with him! The dogs are adjusting well to Mckenna, they seem protective of her, running to her bed or bouncy seat each time she makes a noise. We are all learning what it is like to be a family of three... or five if you count the dogs... and so far we are loving it!

In one week...

Mckenna
...Met lots of family members
...Gained 7 ounces
...Changed so much!

I can't believe a week ago I was in the hospital meeting Mckenna for the first time! It seems like she has been a part of our family for much longer than that! It has been a very busy week! We had visitors almost every night! Great Grandma Lucas and Tremmel and Great Uncle Dan visited on Wednesday, Grandma and Grandpa Lucas brought over dinner on Thursday along with Aunt Kelly and Uncle Marc, Auntie LaLa and Uncle Chris arrived Friday night and Great Uncle Jim and Auntie Marge arrived on Saturday. Mckenna seemed to handle all of the visitors well. Chris and Laura took mom home today...we will miss her dearly, she was so much help!

We are all exhausted today and it is very quiet around the house. Matt goes back to work tomorrow :( and Mckenna and I will be home alone for the first time! I look forward to some bonding time with her. I am going to try to keep myself from using her sleeping time to work around the house... after all... I am still recovering... right?

Thank you all for the warm wishes and kind words! We look forward to Mckenna meeting more family members in the weeks to come! Love you all!

Welcome Baby Mckenna!

Our New Family

After one of the longest weekends in Mommy's life, Mckenna Grace Lucas was born Sunday, September 27, 2009 at 11:06am. She weighs 6 pound 7 ounces and is 20 inches long. We are so happy to have her here! There are so many good pictures... too many to pick from.

Grandpa and Grandma VonBon made it just in time for Mckenna's arrival. They picked up Laura and were on the road by 3am! We were so nervous that they wouldn't make it!
Auntie LaLa was so much help. She stayed at the hospital with me Sunday night so Matt could go home and get some MUCH needed rest. Auntie LaLa woke up every time Mckenna needed to eat and helped me! I am so fortunate to have such an awesome sister. We can't wait to have her come back next weekend! :)

Mom is here for the week. It will be so hard to adjust after all of my help goes home! ...More to come later! :)

Still.... NO Change!

I went to the doctor today and I still have not really changed. The good news was that I lost 3 pounds and she is starting to make her descent and they say you lose weight just before you go into labor. She did however say... "I will see you next week!" :( Let's all say our prayers that Baby Lucas decides to come before next Monday!

Things have slowed down for Matt and I. We are happy to have some free weekends. Kelly and Marc's wedding was really nice and we had a lot of fun! (I have included a couple of pictures for your enjoyment... don't laugh too hard at me!)

Here's to another week...!

Ready for the Weekend!

This weekend will be a busy one but we are getting more and more ready as the days tick by! I went to the doctor on Tuesday and her final words to me were "I'll see you next week" so Kelly can breathe a sigh of relief because I will too be walking down the isle (as a bridesmaid) this weekend... belly and all! :)

The doctor said that Little (content) Baby Lucas is still pretty high. I wanted to know how to get her to move down and I didn't get much help... lounges, squats, sitting on a yoga ball... "you still have 2 weeks".... so I am thinking that she has set up camp and she is not going to come till she is good and ready! I guess this is a good thing, we are just ANXIOUS to meet our little one! On a side note the doctor did another QUICK ultrasound (to make sure she is still head down) and she was amused by the hair on her head. It was sticking straight up and she measured it to be about 1 1/2 cm. :) I have been hoping for a full head of hair so I think I am going to get my wish! Bring on the bows!

... So two weeks to go!
